CHAPTER SIX
CLUTCH AND PRIMARY DRIVE GEAR
This chapter includes service procedures for the
clutch, clutch release mechanism and primary drive
gear. When inspecting components, compare any
measurement to the specifications in
Table 1
at the
end of the chapter. Replace any part that is dam-
aged, worn or out of specification. During assem-
bly, tighten fasteners to the specified torque.
The wet, multi-plate clutch is mounted on the
right side of the transmission mainshaft.
The clutch release mechanism is mounted in the
alternator cover on the left side of the crankcase. It
is cable operated by the clutch lever on the left side
of the handlebar.
NOTE
In the interest of clarity, the clutch
and clutch release mechanism proce
dures were photographed with the en
gine removed from the frame. These
components can be serviced while the
engine is in the frame.
