Battery level indication
There are different battery levels indicators including
100 %, 75 %, 50 % and 25 % (see page 50). Usually
both show the same value. Sometimes two different in-
dicators are shown on the screen, for example 76 % for
the first battery and 70 % for the second battery.
When the total battery level is 30 %, 20 %, and 10 %, a
warning message is displayed. Once the total battery
level goes to 5 %, the instrument is turned off automati-
cally.
Recommendations
To use the USM 100 for a long operating time in field, for
example more than 10 hours, you should take care of
two points:
● enough swappable batteries and
● the time to change the swappable battery.
The internal battery can only be charged inside the
USM 100 by means of the external power adapter. Al-
though a fully charged hot swappable battery provides
more power, as described in the discharging process
(see page 261), the fixed battery still outputs current.
this means the internal battery capacity is also con-
sumed in such a scenario.
To extend the operating time to 10 hours, you can pro-
ceed as follows:
– Start the inspection with two fully charged batteries.
– When the total battery level goes to 40 %, change the
swappable battery. Charge the used battery with the
external charger.
– Continue inspection until both batteries reach the
same level. Then change the swappable battery
again.
– Repeat the previous step. The battery level of the in-
ternal battery is going down during the operation. But
it won't be used out after 10 hours of operation. After
10 hours of operation and changing the swappable
battery five times, the level of the internal battery
should still be higher than 10 %.
