5 Operation Flaw position calculation with angle probes

In addition to the sound path S , the (reduced) projection
distance and the true depth of the flaw are calculated
automatically and can be indicated in the
Measurement
line (see page 120).
● Projection distance P
Distance from the probe beam index point to the po-
sition of the flaw in gate A, projected onto the surface.
● Reduced projection distance R
Distance from the probe front edge to the position of
the flaw, projected onto the surface.
● Depth D
Distance between flaw position and surface.
When working with angle probes, the USM 100 can cal-
culate the skip distance
L up to the next reflection point
as well. This skip distance can be indicated as the read-
ing
LA , LB , or LC in the Measurement line (see
page 120).
