Charging process
When the battery is charged inside the instrument, the
charging process is controlled by the instrument. It
takes 4.5 hours to fully charge an empty battery. If both
batteries are empty, the instrument gathers more cur-
rent to charge both together. This won't have big impact
on the charging time.
Due to the safety requirements, when there are two bat-
teries in the instrument, the instrument must minimize
the battery level difference between the two batteries.
This means that if the difference is large, the battery with
the lower battery level is charged first. When the battery
level difference goes down to 10 %, the instrument
charges both batteries alternately. When both batteries
are fully charged, the charging process stops automati-
cally.
When charging a battery in the external charger, the
charging process is controlled by the external charger.
It takes four hours to fully charge an empty battery.
The batteries can only be charged with the USM 100 or
the external charger. The swappable second battery
cannot charge the fixed internal battery.
Discharging process
The battery discharging is controlled by the USM 100.
The operating time of one fully charged battery is more
than 2.5 hours when the instrument is configured ac-
cording to the requirement in ISO 22232-1 section 8.2.1
and at 25 °C.
When there are two batteries inside the instrument, as
same as for the charging process, due to the safety re-
quirements, the instrument tries to minimize the battery
level difference between the two batteries. This means
that if the difference is large, the battery with the higher
battery level outputs more current than the one with low-
er level. When the battery level difference goes down to
10 %, the discharging currents of both batteries are the
same. The discharging current is also related to the tem-
perature.
