C/IF Gate Mode
With this function you select the third gate. You can then
make the settings for the selected gate.
The USM 100 provides an interface echo gate option (IF
gate). The interface echo gate is normally used for im-
mersion testing and with probes that don't have a solid
delay line, for example probes for spot weld testing.
This type of delay line is not constant and varies every
time the probe position is changed and with every vari-
ation of the load applied to the probe. The continuous
variations of the delay line bring about an alternating
horizontal time of flight shift of the display in the A-scan
with every movement of the probe, the A-scan “shakes”
or “wobbles”. By using the interface echo gate, the dis-
play can be continuously aligned on the position of the
interface echo. In this process, the display zero is set to
the point of intersection of the interface echo with the
gate and tracked in real time.
If a DAC/TCG reference is recorded, this intersecting
point is also used as the reference point for all data
points. Once the interface echo gate is enabled, the
start mode of gate A and gate B is switched to follow the
interface echo gate automatically.
