Gain Step
By pressing the keys on the back of the instrument (see
page 96), you will always change the gain by the certain
dB increment that can be selected here.
In addition to the preset gain steps, you can use the set-
ting
Custom to select the individual gain step that is set
with the function Custom Gain Step (see page 124).
Note
You can prevent the gain from changing with
the buttons on the back of the instrument
during inspection by selecting the setting
Custom here and selecting the setting
0.0 dB in the function Custom Gain Step .
Transfer Correction
If the test object has a rough surface, part of the incident
sound energy will be scattered at its surface and is not
available for the test. The larger this initial scattering, the
smaller the flaw echoes appear, and the more errors oc-
cur in the evaluation result.
It is therefore important to take the effect of the test ob-
ject’s surfaces on the height of the echo into account.
You can determine the value for the transfer correction
by experiment. For more details on this, please read the
corresponding technical literature of the national train-
ing centers for nondestructive testing.
