Slacking of the wheel fixing and operation of the truck is not allowed even if a single nut
or stud fastening the wheel is missing or fastening holes in the disks are worn-out.
Every time you install the wheel on the hub irrespective of the reason of its removal,
tighten up the nut fastening the wheels twice: for the first time after the run of 100-150 km and
for the second time — after 200-300 km.
When conducting the second maintenance of the truck on the whole, it is required to
check condition of the wheels and tires, and if any fault has been discovered, repair or replace,
balance or rearrange them, tighten up the nuts fastening the wheels, if the wheels assembled with
tires could not have been removed from the truck. Besides that, while conducting the second
maintenance, check up the adjustment of wheel convergence and angles of setting the front
wheels, blow through all the lines and hoses of the tire pressure control system.
5.3.3.2.3 Tire mounting and dismantling. When mounting and dismantling the tires,
the following rules should be observed:
- deflate the tire completely;
- assemble and dismantle the tires on a specially equipped area using special equipment,
devices and tools. In field conditions use the tools from the kits, take measures so that no sand and
dirt get into the tires;
- the tire casings, inner tubes and flaps should be clean and dry;
- use the tires of the same size, make, ply-rating. Pay special attention to the correct se-
lection of tires according their centerlines (wear);
- the tires, which have been stored at a temperature below zero, are recommended to be
warmed up in a warm room to a temperature above zero;
- direction of wheel rotation should coincide with that of the tread pattern;
- rims and their elements should not have damages, bends, cracks, sharp edges and burrs,
corrosion both on the exterior and interior sides and in the points of contact with tires, worn-out
fastening holes;
- when mounting the tires at a workshop, check the rim for radial and axial wobbling that
should not exceed 4 mm.
5.3.3.2.4 Before assembling the wheel check up technical condition of the tire casing,
inner tube, flap, lock and bead rings.
Examine the exterior and interior of the tire casing with the help of a bead expander, re-
move alien objects (sand, small stones, etc.) from its interior part, wipe the inner and setting sur-
faces of the tire casing, eliminate damages and galling of the beads, cut the rubber projections and
fins flush-mounted with the main surface of the bead rubber. Powder the tire casing interior and
the inner tube and flap exterior with talc.
To make the assembly easier and ensure the complete setting of the tire onto the setting
surfaces of the rim it is recommended to apply soap solution, glycerin or liquid paraffin onto the
tire casing beads. Do not use mineral oil (solid oil, engine oil, etc.) as a lubricant).
If manufacturing or operational defects have been detected, it is not allowed to use the
tires for mounting.
Check the inner tubes and valves for sealing; do not use the inner tubes with separation in
the joint and the damaged valve.
Remove mud, rust and the rest of rubber from the wheel surface, especially from the sur-
face of the rim, bead and setting rings, which face the tire, and in the welded seams area. Paint
