9 Storage
9.1 General Provisions
A new truck, if it is not to be put into operation, can be stored without preservation,
within three months from the date of its shipment from the manufacturing works. In this case,
upon the truck has been put into storage, apply a thin layer of “
Литол
-24” grease or solid oil onto
unpainted surfaces of the front axle ball supports, provide maintenance of the storage batteries and
tires as per instructions given in the corresponding Operation Manual.
If it is required to store the truck within the period, exceeding the indicated above, it
should be preserved and protected in conformity with the requirements of this section.
Store the truck in a clean, dry, ventilated and dim-out room or under a shed. When stor-
ing it on the open site, protect its tires, steering wheel, rubber and plastic parts from the sun rays,
and cover the engine and its systems by water-proof packing paper or painted film, canvas, etc.
Keep the tires inflated.
9.2 Storage Preparation
Perform the daily maintenance and scheduled maintenance depending on a truck run.
Fill in the housings of the transfer box, axle reduction units, steering with working-and-
corrosion-preventing oils or working oils up to the norm; fill in the winch housing with the
working oil.
Make sure that the winch lever is in its disengaged position, then engage the auxiliary
power take-off drive for 3-5 minutes with the engine running.
Perform the preservation of engine and gearbox in accordance with the «Engine
Operation Manual» and «Gearbox Operation Manual».
Protective and preservative materials are indicated in Table 15.
Seal in the intake pipe and the outlet pipe, crankcase ventilation fitting.
Close the wheel valves.
Drain water out of the washer reservoir.
Switch off the storage batteries.
Clean, wash, dry and powder with talc the cab floor rubber carpets, roll them up and put
onto the seats.
When storing the truck on the open site, remove the truck platform canopy, wiper blades,
rear-view, wide-angle and side-view mirrors, pack and store them in a closed room.
Dry the canopy prior to packing.
Cover the rubber parts by the protection compound as per Table 15 or wrap them up with
a packing material.
Close the cab ventilation hatch tight, close the drop-sided window glasses, door vents
and lift up the winter front.
Apply (as per Table) a thin layer of grease onto:
- plug and socket connectors of the rear lights, number plate light, reversing lamps and
connections of the bottle air pressure sensors;
