When there is no pressure in the truck pneumatic system, the transfer case gear is en-
gaged which was engaged before, and the differential is unlocked. With the high gear engaged,
the neutral and lower gear engagement is done by the bolt 5 rotation counterclockwise. The bush-
ing which is installed in the cover, sets the neutral position of the transfer case through translation
movement defined by the intermediate cardan shaft turning over by hand at the gear box control
lever neutral position. The low gear engages with further rotation of the bolt. Similarly, during the
bolt 57 rotation, the differential gets locked.
During disassembly, all the parts of the electro pneumatic control are to be cleaned from
dust and dirt and washed in kerosene. Before assembly, interacting working surfaces of the gear
shifting mechanisms, transfer gearbox differential lock, auxiliary PTO and PTO boxes engaging
mechanisms, cross-axle differential lock mechanisms are to be lubricated with a thin layer of

-201 lubricant, and the collars internal surfaces are to be filled up with the same lubri-
cant. Use sealants АН -8 К ТУ 6-02-6-88, АН -17 М ТУ 6-01-2-728-86 or LOCTITE 577 for all the
conical threads; use sealant КЛТ -75 ТМ ТУ 2513-069-00151963-2000 for the sealing gaskets.
In the process of the control system operation and when assembling the system, pay spe-
cial attention to the pipelines and flexible hoses tightness. The significant leakage location is de-
tected by ear; insignificant leakage is determined by a soapy emulsion. The air leakage is not ad-
missible.
5.2.3. Cardan Drive
5.2.3.1 The torque from the gearbox to the transfer gearbox and the driving axles of the
truck is transferred by two propshafts (Fig. 34, 35). The propshafts are open, with complex pack-
ing (Fig. 36) of the needle bearings in the hinged joints.
