For the filter element servicing remove the precleaner and remove dust through shaking
or blowing. If the cardboard filter element is covered with dust without a fume or carbon black
deposit (the element is gray in color), blow it with dry compressed air till the dust is completely
removed. To prevent cardboard break, do not exceed the compressed air pressure limit of 200-300
kPa (2-3 kgf/cm
2
). Direct the air jet at an angle with the surface and adjust the air jet force by var-
ying the distance between the hose and the element.
If soot or oil are seen on the cardboard, or if the blow-over with compressed air proves
ineffective, wash the element in warm water (40-50 °C) with a detergent dissolved in it (such
as household detergents) at the rate of 20-25 g of the substance per 1 L of water. Immerse the el-
ement in the solution for half an hour, then rotate or dip it vigorously during 10-15 min. After
washing in the solution, rinse the element in fresh water and dry. Do not dry it above open fire or
in air heated over 70 °C.
After each servicing or fitting a new element a visual inspection of its condition
should be made, illuminating it with a bulb.
Replace the element if mechanical injuries, cardboard broken corrugations or ply
separations are evident.
The estimated service life of the cardboard filter element is 30 000 km. More frequent
cleaning of the filtering element might reduce its service life, since total attempts of element ser-
vicing are limited (to 5-7 attempts including washing 3 times maximum) because of possible
cardboard disrupture.
A periodic inspection of corrugated and smooth hoses connecting rubber is necessary.
Replace the parts in case of defects like fractures, cuts, disruptions.
5.1.2 Engine Starting Preheating System
5.1.2.1 Engine starting preheating system is intended for warming the engine at negative
ambient temperatures.

Engine starting preheating system comprises:
- starting preheater consisting of: heater boiler 11(Fig. 24), pump unit 15 (electric engine,
fan, hydraulic and fuel pumps); high-voltage source;
- fuel tank 1 with cock 2;
- preheater control console comprising switches of electric fuel heater, plug, pump
unit and solenoid valve. The console is located on the cooling system radiator left side;
- pipelines;
- gas branch pipe 8;
- oil sump casing 6.
The removable burner is bolted to the heat exchanger. Plug 7, solenoid valve 10 in
asembly with the injector and electric fuel heater 9 are fitted on the burner.
The solenoid valve cuts in and off the fuel to the burner.
The injector fitted in the solenoid valve body sprays fuel needed for combustion.
The electric heater warms the fuel portion before starting the preheater.
