4 Controls and Instruments
4.1 Controls and instruments located in the driver’s cab are shown in Fig. 17-20.
Shift gears in the gearbox according to the scheme shown in Fig. 17.
Engage the gearbox, transfer case and differential lock as well as the power take-off, aux-
iliary power take-off according to the plates inside the cab and in accordance with the instructions
of the Section «Driving Technique».
When pressing transfer case gear shifting key switch 31 (Fig. 19) on the control panel in
the cab (the key has three fixed positions: high gear, neutral gear and low gear), the required gear
is chosen but not engaged. In order to engage the gear, press transfer case gear engagement button
30 and hold it depressed for 5-7 sec, by this the solenoid valves deliver the air into the transfer
case gear shifting mechanism and the gear is engaged.
When the low gear is engaged, the indicator 33 lights up.
When the button 29 of transfer case differential locking with «
» symbol is pushed,
the solenoid valve of the transfer case differential locking is activated; when the button 23 of
power take-off engagement with «
» symbol is pushed, the solenoid valve of power take-off is
activated; when the button 24 of auxiliary power take-off engagement with «
» symbol is
pushed, the solenoid valve of auxiliary power take-off is activated; When the button 28 of cross-
axle differential locking with «
» symbol is pushed, the solenoid valve of the cross-axle differ-
ential locking is activated. Solenoid valves deliver air to the transfer case differential locking
mechanism, power take-off box, auxiliary power take-off box, intermediate and rear axles mecha-
nisms, by this indicators light up and the mechanisms are engaged.
The starter and instruments switch 11 (Fig. 18) is located on the steering column and has
three key positions:
- 0
- “off”, the position is fixed, the key can be removed;
- I
- the instruments are turned on, the position is fixed, the key cannot be removed;
- II - the instruments and starter are on, return to position I is automatic, the key cannot
be removed.
The starter and instruments switch 11 consists of the contact part and lock part. The lock
part has blocking device making the starter repeated turning-on at the running engine impossible.
When the key is removed from the lock, the locking rod moves out and goes into the
steering gear shaft slot, locking the shaft.
Caution! Do not remove the key from the starter and instruments switching lock at
truck travelling!
