Frequency
The frequency o f a recurrent signal can be determined
from its time-duration measurement as follows:
1. Measure the time duration o f one waveform cycle
using the preceding "Tim e
D uration" measurement
procedure.
2. Calculate the reciprocal o f the time-duration value to
determine the frequency o f the waveform.
EXAMPLE: The signal in Figure 17 has a time duration
o f 16.6 ms.
Calculating the reciprocal of time duration:
Frequency = ----- —----- :— = ——----- = 60 Hz
time duration
16.6 ms
Rise Time
Rise-time measurements use the same methods as time
duration, except that the measurements are made between
the 10% and 90% points on the leading edge o f the wave
form (see Figure 18). Fall time is measured between the
90% and 10% points on the trailing edge o f the waveform.
1. Preset instrument controls and obtain a Normal
Sweep Display.
2. A pply the signal to either vertical-channel input
connector and set the V E R TIC A L MODE switch to display
the channel used.
3. Set the A TRIGGER SLOPE switch to + (plus). Use
a sweep-speed setting that displays several complete cycles
or events (if possible).
4. Set the V O LTS/D IV switch and VAR control fo r an
exact 5-division display.
5. Adjust vertical positioning so that the zero reference
o f the waveform touches the 0% graticule line and the top
