Power Off Using the Operator Panel
If for some reason you are unable to power off the drive from the BlueScale web
interface, or if you want to disable a drive until you have a replacement, you can use
the operator panel on the blade containing the drive.
Caution:
Using the operator panel to power down a drive does not
perform any checking to see whether the drive is part of an
active RAID volume.
1.
From the operator panel of the blade containing the drive
you want to replace, use the
<
and
>
buttons to select the
Drive status screen. An
X
next to the drive number
indicates the physical location of the drive that is
malfunctioning.

From the Drive Status screen, press
O
to display the Drive
Control screen.
A new layer of tabs displays at the bottom of the screen.
Each tab displays the current status of the one drive in the
blade.

Use the
<
and
>
buttons to select the drive you want to
power down.
4.
Press
O
to activate the drive control options for the
selected drive.
5.
Use the
<
and
>
buttons to select the power state. A red
box surrounds the selected state.
ƒ
On
—Power on the drive.
ƒ
Off
—Temporarily power off the drive so that it can be
replaced. The drive automatically powers on when you
slide the blade back into the chassis.
ƒ
Disabled
—Power off the drive. The drive remains
powered off until you manually power it back on using
the operator panel.

Use the
<
and
>
buttons to move to the
X
on either side of the power options, then
press
O
to apply your change and return to the tabs on bottom of the Drive Control
screen.
7.
Use the
<
and
>
buttons to move to the
X
on either end of the Drives tab, then
press
O
to return to the Drive Status screen. The icon next to the drive whose
power state you changed indicates the current state (see Operator Panel Status
Icons on page 71).
