controller The control logic in a storage subsystem that performs command
transformation and routing, aggregation (RAID, mirroring, striping, or
other), high-level error recovery, and performance optimization for
multiple storage devices. (SNIA)

DAS
Acronym for Direct Attached Storage.
data striping
A process in which sequential blocks of incoming data are stored on all
the different disk drives in a virtual disk. This method of writing data
increases virtual disk throughput because multiple disks are working
simultaneously, retrieving and storing. RAID 6 uses data striping.
DHCP
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. A protocol for assigning dynamic
IP addresses to devices on a network. With dynamic addressing, a
device can have a different IP address every time it connects to the
network. In some systems, the device’s IP address can even change
while it is still connected. DHCP also supports a mix of static and
dynamic IP addresses.
DNS
Acronym for Domain Name Service.
domain
A shared user authorization database that contains users, groups, and
their security practices. (SNIA)
Domain Name Service
A computer program that converts between IP addresses and symbolic
names for nodes on a network in a standard way. Most operating
systems include a version of Domain Name Service. (SNIA)
DPM
Acronym for Data Protection Manager.
dual parity
An extension of single parity RAID techniques in which parity data is
stored in two independent locations. Applicable to multiple RAID levels
(for example, RAID 3, 4, and 5). With RAID 5, the result is RAID 6.
