Chapter 2 – Installing the nTier700 VTL

Use the following instructions to install the drives in a blade.
1. Put on the provided anti-static wristband and attach it to an unpainted metallic
surface.
Caution:
Any damage to the Spectra nTier700 VTL or its drives caused by
failure to protect it from electrostatic discharge (ESD) voids the
nTier700 VTL’s warranty. To protect the nTier700 VTL and its
drives from damage:
ƒ
Wear an anti-static wristband, properly grounded, throughout
the procedure. If a wristband is not available, touch a known
grounded surface, such as the unpainted metal chassis.
ƒ
Leave the drives in their anti-static bags until you are ready to
install them.
ƒ
Do not place un-bagged drives on any metal surfaces.
ƒ
Do not power on the nTier700 VTL until all of the drives are
installed.
2.
Grasp the blade handle and carefully slide the blade out until all of the drive slots
are accessible.
3.
Open the first box of drives and remove the top foam packaging to reveal the drives
inside (Figure 2-9).
4.
Take one drive from the box and remove it from its anti-static bag.
