The blades slide into bays in the front of the nTier700 VTL enclosure and lock in
place. The bezel on each blade has an operator panel and a handle for removing
the blade from the enclosure. For security, the operator panel for each blade, as
well as the blades themselves, are typically locked to prevent access.

Blade blanks.
A blade blank is installed in each unused bay to prevent
contaminates for entering the enclosure and to maintain proper air flow. The blade
blank does not contain any drives and does not include an operator panel.
Rear Panel
Figure 1-2 shows the major components on the rear panel of the nTier700 VTL
appliance.

Depending on the options you purchased, the rear panel of your
nTier700 VTL appliance may differ slightly from the one shown in
Figure 1-2.

Integrated server.
The powerful, integrated server uses two high-performance,
quad-core CPUs to run the FalconStor VTL software and handle all of the
deduplication processing. The dedicated disk storage used by the server is
protected by RAID 1 mirroring for high availability. See

page 21 for a detailed description.
