Features
The energy-efficient nTier700 VTL includes the following features:

nTier FalconStor
®
VTL software. The included FalconStor VTL software provides
Virtual Tape Library (VTL) and FalconStor Single Instance Repository (SIR)
deduplication functionality for the nTier700 VTL. The

The FalconStor VTL Console (referred to as the VTL Console) is a Windows-based
administration tool that runs on a computer connected to the same network as the
nTier700 VTL. The VTL Console lets you configure, manage, monitor the virtual
tape libraries and deduplication on the nTier700 VTL.

RAID 6 data protection. The nTier700 VTL includes up to three sets of high-
performance disk drives. Each disk set consists of ten 1 TB disk drives mounted in
a removable blade. For security, the blades can be locked to prevent unauthorized
removal. The disk drives in each blade provide the RAID-protected storage capacity
used by the VTL and SIR, including the VTL database, SIR index, and SIR repository.

RAID write caching. Cache memory on thenTier700 VTL RAID controller stores
data from the host before it is written to the disk drives. Because writing data to
memory is typically faster than writing to disk, using write caching improves the
overall performance of the RAID storage. Once the data is written to the cache
memory, the host can move on to another operation while the data is written to
disk.

BlueScale
®
web interface. The BlueScale web interface is used to configure the
nTier700 VTL IP addresses, monitor the hardware status, and view hardware system
messages.
ƒ
Integrated VTL server. The powerful, integrated VTL server uses two high-
performance, quad-core CPUs running the FalconStor VTL software. The dedicated
disk storage used by the server is protected by RAID 1 mirroring for high
availability. See

Operator panel with LCD display. Each blade includes an operator panel with a
color LCD display and three navigational buttons. The operator panel lets you lock
and unlock the blade, set the nTier700 VTL IP address for Ethernet port 1, and
monitor the status of the drives in the blade. See

detailed information.

Gigabit (1000BaseT) Ethernet connectivity. Four onboard 1-Gigabit Ethernet
(1GbE) ports provide connections to Gigabit Ethernet networks. The Ethernet ports
can be used to access to the BlueScale web interface through a standard web
browser, configured for additional network connections, or used to connect the
nTier700 to a tape library with an iSCSI interface.
