Serial port (COM2).
Not currently used.
ƒ
Ethernet ports
. The nTier700 VTL server includes four 1-Gigabit Ethernet (1GbE)
ports.
ƒ
Ethernet port 1 provides access to the BlueScale web interface through a
standard web browser. The IP address for Ethernet port 1 displays on the
operator panel of each blade.
ƒ
Ethernet ports 2 through 4 can be configured for additional Gigabit Ethernet
network connections, used to connect the nTier700 VTL to a tape library with an
iSCSI interface, or used to connect to other iSCSI devices.
ƒ
USB ports.
The two USB ports can used to connect a USB key to the nTier700 VTL
for saving configurations and uploading firmware packages. If desired, you can use
these ports to connect a USB mouse and a USB keyboard to the nTier700 VTL
server.
ƒ
RMM (Remote management module) connector.
The RMM connector is a
dedicated Ethernet connection used to access the remote power management
functionality for the nTier700. Read the
Intel Remote Management Module 2 User
Guide
for detailed information about configuring and using Remote Power
Management (see Related Publications on page 12).
ƒ
LVD SCSI connectors.
An optional Ultra-3 SCSI “LVD” Fast & Wide SCSI adapter
provides two 68-pin Micro D female connectors can be used to connect the
nTier700 VTL to a tape library using a SCSI bus. The SCSI ID for the adapter is set
to 7.
ƒ
System drives.
Two dedicated disk drives are used by nTier700 VTL server for the
operating system and the FalconStor VTL software. The drives are configured as
RAID 1 mirror to ensure high availability.
ƒ
Expansion slots.
The bottom two expansion slots accommodate one or two
optional interface cards to provide additional connectivity. You can install one
10 Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) network interface card (NIC) or up to two Fibre Channel
Host host bus adapters (HBA), which can be used to connect the nTier700 VTL to a
tape library with a Fibre Channel interface.

By default, the 10 GigE NIC card uses DHCP addressing. The addressing can be
changed using the web interface (see
Configuring Additional Network
Connections on page 50).
ƒ
The Fibre Channel HBA uses soft addressing.
ƒ
Fans. The CPU and enclosure fans circulate air through the integrated server and
the nTier700 VTL enclosure to maintain the temperature within the required range.
