For robotic integration, plates are delivered to a single location outside
of the instrument. The placement area for robotic delivery of plates to
the instrument is to the left of the instrument. The locations for manual
and robotic access to the instrument are shown below:
A further illustration of this arrangement shows the relation of the plate
handler to the pipettor system.

The manual access door side of the instrument is called the front of the
instrument. From this, the following illustrates the named sides of the
instrument:
Robotic Plate Loading
Plates are shuttled into the instrument by a plate handling subsystem
called the TETRAcycler. To lessen dead time between assays and to
handle more source plates in an assay than can be accommodated on
the plate stage, the robotic access door(s) and TETRAcycler are able to
exchange plates and tips while an assay is running. The following
diagram illustrates the steps involved in loading plates in robotic mode:
