5000 Installation Manual – Issue 2.4, May 2008
Additional Feature Information
The following features are available on some or all of the endpoints used on Inter-Tel CS-5200/
5400/5600 platforms.
Integrated Speakerphone
The integrated speakerphone allows users to place and receive outside calls and intercom calls
without lifting the handset. Once a call is connected, the endpoint user may speak handsfree
over the speakerphone or lift the handset to speak privately. When using the handset, the user
may switch to the speakerphone by pressing the
Speaker
button and replacing the handset. If
enabled, pages and/or background music may be broadcast over the speaker when the
endpoint is not being used.
Liquid Crystal Display (LCD)
Model 8660 endpoints and the IP PhonePlus models have an LCD with six 16-character lines at
the top and Model 8620 endpoints have two lines. The display helps the user to process calls
more efficiently and reliably. Display messages appear for date and time, numbers dialed, call
cost data, reminders, DND, forwarding, voice mail processing, incoming calls, endpoint and
system status, system alarms, user prompting, and programming. Display messages are
indicated throughout the FEATURES section of the manual.
Message Lamp
Models 8600, 8620/8622, 8660, 8662, 8690, and the IP PhonePlus models are equipped with a
Message Lamp, located in the upper, right-hand corner of the endpoints. By default, this lamp is
programmed to indicate when a message is waiting. However, the lamp can be programmed for
a different feature using the keymap in DB Programming. For details, refer to the
Inter-Tel 5000
Features and Programming Guide
(part no: 580.8006). The lamp flashes when the feature
associated with it is active. For example, when the lamp is programmed to indicate Hold, the
lamp will flash when a call is held at the endpoint.
Electret Circuitry
Inter-Tel endpoints and handsets have been designed using electret microphone circuitry, rather
than dynamic microphone circuitry. Electret endpoints and handsets are not electrically
compatible with dynamic endpoints and handsets.
If a dynamic handset is attached to an electret endpoint, the handset transmit levels will be
noticeably lower. If an electret handset is attached to a dynamic endset, the handset will not
transmit. In either case, neither the endset nor the handset would be damaged.
Electret endpoints can be identified by the manufacturer’s label on the bottom of the endpoint.
Electret handsets can be identified by the “E1” embossed in the recess for the wall-mount hook,
which is near the receiver.
NOTE
If desired, speakerphone capability can be disabled on an endpoint-by-endpoint
basis through DB Programming. Refer to the
Inter-Tel 5000 Features and
Programming Guide
(part no: 580.8006).
