Software Specifications
The UPS Monitoring feature requires the software found in the Inter-Tel 5000 v2.2 or later
software release.
Operating System
: The Inter-Tel 5000 platform requires the Linux operating system shipped
with the v2.2 or later software release to ensure proper operation of the UPS Monitoring feature.
Failure to use the correct operating system may result in system instability.
Software Environment
: The UPS Monitoring feature requires all software packages provided
with the v2.2 or later release. Required software includes, but is not limited to, the Linux
operating system, CP, and all UPS drivers and associated software.
Main Distribution Frame (MDF) and Cabling
Connections between the trunks, external equipment, and the trunk circuit modules are made at
the Main Distribution Frame (MDF). The MDF consists of a plywood backboard mounted on a
wall and equipped with adequate interconnection hardware. Typically, the interconnection
hardware includes industry-standard 66M1-50 terminal blocks, or 237A Krone blocks in Europe.
Bridging clips are used on all terminal blocks to complete cross-connections. A patch panel and/
or appropriate modular jacks may be used to connect other types of trunks to the chassis.
Table 4-6
summarizes and describes the materials used to construct an MDF.
The Inter-Tel 5000 Base Server can be placed on a stable, horizontal surface, mounted with
brackets, or rack-mounted. Inter-Tel recommends rack-mounting the equipment. For details, see
“Installing the Inter-Tel CS-5200/5400/5600 Base Server” on
page 5-15
.
IMPORTANT
Do
not
connect the UPS to the system until after upgrading to the v2.2
software release. The monitoring function begins only when a supported
device is detected.

power strips for AC transformers, or other ancillary
equipment.

May be used to terminate cables from the telephone
company (CO) or Local Exchange to the customer’s
premises. For systems equipped with digital endpoint
capability, the blocks may be used to terminate cables from
the Inter-Tel 5000 Base Server to the MDF for distribution to
end users.
Equipment rack
If using the rack-mount installation method, the rack should
be of standardized dimensions for mounting telephone or
data equipment. The rack should be set up so that the front
of the chassis is at eye-level so the technician can read
messages or commands appearing on the LCD panel. For
further details, see the
Installation
chapter.
Patch panel
If using the rack-mount installation method, the patch panel
should provide the appropriate number of ports for supporting
the system. Each port shall provide an 8-pin/8-conductor (8P/
8C) interface in a 110-type termination block suitable for 22–
24AWG wire. For further details, see the
Installation
chapter.
