11.
If necessary, upload the system software (see “Upgrading System and Application
Software” on
page 5-137
). Also load new voice processing software, if required.
12.
Install any new endpoints and any optional endpoint or system equipment. Ensure all
equipment is working properly.
13.
If adding voice processing (VP) or fax cards to the optional external voice processing
system, install them according to the instructions in either the
Enterprise
®
Messaging
Installation Manual
, part no. 780.8006, or the
Voice Processing Unit Installation Manual
,
part no. 835.2890. Verify the switch settings, cable connections, and card options.
14.
Refer to the Programming chapter in the
Inter-Tel 5000 Features and Programming
Guide
(part no: 580.8006) for procedural guidance to restore the database or voice mail
database and configure and program the additions to the system.
15.
Train end users on any new features or options that have been installed. Provide them
contact information for directing questions or issues.
Upgrading System and Application Software
All system software and module applications are provided on the specially formatted compact
flash-type Inter-Tel memory card. This is a general procedure for using the Admin Session Web
page to upgrade system and application software. For release-specifid upgrade information, see
page “Upgrading System Software to Version 2.x” on
page 5-146
.
During an initial install, no additional software is needed. Everything the system needs is on the
compact flash card. When there is an update to the system or module software, the software is
downloaded to a PC (for example, a laptop), then transferred through a TFTP server to the
Inter-Tel 5000 platform using the Administrative Web Session interface.
For information about a TFTP server configuration example, see
page 5-142
.
To upgrade system or application software:
1.
Perform a Database backup using DB Programming. You can also back up the database
using the LCD panel. For details, see “Backing Up the Database” on
page 5-96
.
2.
Perform a voice mail backup. Connect a USB flash drive (2.0 compatible) to the USB-A
port on the front of the Inter-Tel 5000 Base Server chassis. Do
not
back up VM to the
Inter-Tel memory card. See “Saving the System and Voice Processor Databases” on
page 5-91
NOTICE
Memory Corruption Hazard
. Only the compact flash-type Inter-Tel memory card will work in
the Inter-Tel CS-5200/5400/5600 Base Server. The memory card provided with the system
does not function with any other PC. Do not attempt to read the Inter-Tel memory card from a
Windows-based PC as this could corrupt the file structure. See the
Specifications
chapter for
memory card capacities and part numbers.
IMPORTANT
If a firewall is between the Inter-Tel 5000 platform and the TFTP server, the
TFTP UDP port (default port 69) needs to be open to the TFTP server from
the DMZ. Also, if working with a NATed network, see
Network IP Topology
.
NOTE
For detailed information on the steps in this procedure, refer to the
Inter-Tel 5000
Features and Programming Guide
(part no: 580.8006).
