Installing a Single Line Handset Amplifier

Single line set users may want to install a handset amplifier. Usually, the amplifier is an external
device placed between a single line endpoint and the handset. For specifications, see

page 4-

To install the handset amplifier:

1.

Unplug the coiled handset cord from the single line set.

2.

Plug the coiled handset cord into the amplifier jack labeled HANDSET.

3.

Plug the amplifier line cord (coming from the jack labeled TELEPHONE) into the single
line set handset jack.

4.

Plug the amplifier power supply cord into an available AC power source. Do

not

plug the

transformer unit into the outlet used for the Inter-Tel 5000 Base Server chassis. Also,
Inter-Tel recommends using a UPS.

5.

Increase or decrease the handset volume, using the thumbwheel located on the
amplifier. Verify that the amplifier is functioning correctly by placing a call and adjusting
the volume from low to high.

Installing a DSS/BLF Unit

Three models of Direct Station Select (DSS)/Busy Lamp Field (BLF) units can be installed on
Inter-Tel digital endpoints, depending on the model of endpoint. Each suitable digital endpoint
supports up to four DSS/BLF units, and each Inter-Tel 5000 platform supports a total of 20 DSS/
BLF units.

As described in the following sections, to install a DSS/BLF unit on a digital endpoint, carry out
the following process and associated procedures:

1.

Gather installation equipment and materials.

2.

Install Personal Computer Data Port Module (PCDPM) and Modem Data Port Module
(MDPM) devices in digital endpoints, as required.

3. Connect

PCDPM

cables.

4.

Install and test DSS/BLF unit(s).

Gathering Equipment and Materials

Keep the following information in mind when gathering equipment and materials for installing
DSS/BLF units.

•

PCDPMs are required on digital endpoints in order to use the Off-Hook Voice Announce
(OHVA) feature or to install DSS/BLF units.

•

MDPMs are required on digital endpoints in order to connect single line endpoints.

•

Optional wall-mount kits for the Inter-Tel CS-5x00/DEI chassis. One wall-mount kit allows
you to mount the chassis flat against the MDF and the other kit from the Inter-Tel
CommSource

®

division provides a rack mount unit that can be wall-mounted on the MDF.

IMPORTANT

Serial data communication through the RS-232 serial port interface on
the PCDPM is

not

supported on the Inter-Tel 5000 platform.
