To set up Near-End NAT Traversal for IP Endpoints on a CS-5400 system:
1. Configure the firewall/NAT device for a static mapping for the IP address of the
Processor Expansion Card. This associates a public IP address with the Inter Tel CS-
5400 native address of the Processor Expansion Card.
2. In the DB Programming IP Connections folder, program the NAT IP Address to be the
public address that was associated with the native private address in
step 1 .
3. In DB Programming, create an IP endpoint and specify the MAC address.
4. In the IP Settings folder for the newly created IP endpoint from the Internet, set the NAT
Address Type to
NAT , as shown in the example below.
5. Configure the IP endpoint (that is on the Internet) to communicate with the Inter-Tel CS-
5400 (public) NAT address. You can do this through the IP endpoint setup sequence or
through the IP endpoint Web page. The address to use is the public address associated
with Inter-Tel CS-5400 main IP address – regardless of whether the system is an Inter-
Tel CS-5200 or an Inter-Tel CS-5400.
6. For the “internal” IP endpoints (those in the internal network with private addresses), set
the NAT address type
Native , and configure the IP endpoints to communicate with the
Inter-Tel CS-5400 (private) internal address, 192.168.1.2. Incorrect configuration may
result in an undesirable effect called tromboning. Not all firewalls support tromboning, so
avoid this configuration, if possible. The diagram on the previous page illustrates
tromboning.
IMPORTANT
Configure the firewall security settings for the newly mapped IP
address(es) as described in “Port Usage Summary” on
page B-20 .
Depending on how the particular firewall defaults its security, failure to
configure the security may result in no-audio conditions or security
vulnerabilities.
