Installing Digital Endpoints
The following endpoints can be installed through the DEI:
•
Digital endpoints
•
Single-Line Adapters, connected to DEM-16 ports
Installing Digital Endpoints
Before installing the digital endpoints, unpack each one and check for damage. If items are
damaged or missing, contact Inter-Tel Customer Support. See “Technical Support Contact
Information” on
page 6-2
.
Each digital endpoint from the factory should include the following:
•
Baseplate
•
One three-pair line cord, 6 ft
•
One handset
•
One four-conductor coiled handset cord
•
Slide-out directory card (
not
available on Models 8500, 8520, or 8560)
•
Extra feature key templates
To install a digital endpoint:
1.
Before mounting the modular jack [line jack unit] assembly and connecting the endpoint,
measure the voltage on the YELLOW terminal of the modular jack [line jack unit]
assembly with respect to the BLACK terminal. (The “common” probe of the voltmeter is
placed on the BLACK terminal.) It must m24 VDC (+2.0 VDC). If a negative
voltage is measured, check the cabling for a reversed pair. If tip and ring are reversed,
the endpoint will not function.
2.
Mount the modular jack [line jack unit] assembly on the wall.
3.
Attach the coiled handset cord to the handset and to the handset jack on the bottom of
the endpoint. Place the handset on hook. The bottom of the Model 8500, 8520, and
8560 endpoints have molded channels designed to hold the handset and line cords. For
best results when connecting a handset, uncoil a portion of the handset cord and push
the cord into the channel so that the flat side of the cord is against the endpoint.
4.
Plug one end of the line cord into the wall-mounted modular jack [line jack unit]
assembly. Plug the other end into the line cord jack on the bottom of the endpoint.
To aid in installation and troubleshooting, display endpoints show their station circuit
number, extension number, and assigned user name for several seconds when power is
turned ON and the line cord is first plugged in. This display also appears after a system
reset, and whenever the line cord is removed and replaced while power is ON. The
station identification displays for several seconds, then the endpoint changes to the
appropriate display, depending on its current status.
5.
Perform the self-test for the specific endpoint model you have.
•
For the Executive, Professional, Standard, and Associate Display models, or the
Axxess or Eclipse Basic digital endpoints, see “Performing the Digital Endpoint
Self-Test,” next.
•
For the Model 8500, 8520, or 8560 endpoint, see paragraph on
page 5-125
.
NOTICE
The proprietary digital endpoints specified in this section are to be installed only on Inter-Tel
Advanced Communications Platforms.
