Upgrading System Software to Version 2.x
This section describes required network conditions, working assumptions, and the processes
and procedures to follow when upgrading an Inter-Tel 5000 platform.
Network Environment Requirements
For the most efficient network connectivity and system performance, the Inter-Tel 5000 platform
must operate in a suitable network environment. Detailed characteristics appear in
VoIP Data
Network Requirements
, part no. 835.2885.
If upgrading an Inter-Tel CS-5600, the Base Server and the PS-1:
•
Must be connected to the same local area network (LAN).
•
Must be on the same subnet.
•
Must be on the same Virtual LAN (VLAN).
•
Must be connected on a 100 Mbps full-duplex switch.
•
Cannot have a Network Address Translation (NAT) device between them.
If a Base Server—as well as a PS-1—resides behind a firewall and you want to make changes
to the system from a remote location, make sure the system is accessible. To gain access to DB
Programming, IP endpoints, Secure Shell (SSH), Diagnostics Monitor, or Administrative Web
Sessions, the network administrator must open a specific range of User Datagram Protocol
(UDP) ports on the firewall.
Table 5-20
shows the UDP port ranges applicable to v2.x. These port assignments apply to the
Processor Module (PM-1) and the Processor Expansion Card (PEC-1) in the Inter-Tel CS-5200/
5400/5600 Base Server. These port assignments do
not
apply to the Processing Server (PS-1).
All DB Programming occurs through the Base Server, unless the site is installing a PS-1.
The Inter-Tel 5000 platform does not support IP networking through a Network Address
Translation (NAT) device.
Upgrade Assumptions
The processes and applicable procedures detailed in this section assume that:
•
You are upgrading a system running v1.2 or later. Systems running v1.2 must first upgrade
to v2.0, which requires a chargeable license. For sites running v.1.1 and earlier, contact
Inter-Tel Technical Support for direction.
•
The compact flash-type Inter-Tel 5000 memory card remains the same throughout the
upgrade process. Inter-Tel 5000 memory cards are available with system software in three
capacities: 256 MB, 512 MB, and 1024 MB. For ordering details, see “Replacement Parts”
on
page 6-2
.

UDP Port Assignments for v2.x
System
Version
UDP Port Range
v2.x
UDP 6004–7039 (RTP and RTCP)
Processor Module (PM-1) base port – 6004
Processor Expansion Card (PEC-1) base port – 6604
IMPORTANT
If replacing the Inter-Tel 5000 memory card in addition to upgrading the
software, install the new card in accordance with the
Inter-Tel 5000
Memory Card Replacement Instructions
, part no. 835.3033.
You must
not
remove the memory card while the system is up and
running or if power is otherwise supplied to the chassis. Doing so may
damage the memory card and the system data on it.
