5.6 Use of the equipment as a gas condenser
5.6.1 General requirements for the construction of the plant
For the installation of adiabatic condensers, apply the same general rules common to all cooling systems
which have an operating principle based on the reduction of water consumed to dissipate heat.
• Position the machine (or machines) so that the air is able to flow freely towards the suction inlets.
• Take into account the effects of the thermal expansion of the pipes forming the external system of
the machine (the line conveying the gas towards the exhaust line).
• Use suitable, high-quality pipes, executing the welds and joints according to the plumbing
engineering standards.
• Anticipate any possible system extension, involving the addition of other evaporative condensers.
It is preferable to size the piping taking into consideration possible extension rather than having to
take subsequent action with expensive replacement work.
• Avoid closing the intercept valves placed outside the batteries of the condensers, if inside them
there is liquid gas: any sudden rise of the outside temperature is likely to cause the "flash" effect
(violent and instantaneous gas expansion), with possible breakage of the battery tubes.
