a ir b ag c o u ld cause serious injury o r
death to the person . C hildren are
m ore likely to sleep in the vehicle;
w hen they do, they are m ore a t risk in
the f r o n t p a s s e n g e r ’s se a t th a t h as a
side a ir bag becau se they m ay slum p
o ver into the p a th o f the seatback-
m o u n ted a ir bag. I f a ch ild c a n ’t be
seated in the rear, do n o t allow the
ch ild to lean over o r a g a in st the fr o n t
door, even i f the ch ild is seated in a
ch ild-restrain t system .

Restraint System Installation
1. Slide the seat as far back as possible.
2. Secure the child-restraint system w ith
the lap portion o f the lap/shoulder belt.
See the instructions on the child-
restraint system for belt routing
instructions.

3. To get the retracto r into the autom atic
locking m ode, pull the shoulder belt
portion o f the seat belt until the entire
length o f the belt is o ut o f the retractor.
4. P u sh the child-restraint system firm ly
into the v ehicle seat. B e sure the belt
retracts as snugly as possible. C licking
from the retracto r w ill b e heard during
retraction if the system is in autom atic
locking m ode. If the belt does not lock
the seat dow n tight, rep ea t this step.
N O T E
Inspect this function before each
u se o f the child-restraint system .
You should not be able to pull the
shoulder belt out o f the retractor
w hile the system is in the autom atic
locking m ode. W hen you rem ove
the child-restraint system , b e sure
the belt fully retracts to return the
system to em ergency locking m ode
b efore occupants use the seat belts.
Follow the child-restraint system
m an u factu rer’s instruction carefully.
D epending on the type o f child-
restrain t system , it m ay not em ploy
seat belts w hich are in autom atic
locking m ode.
