W a sh in g
To help protect the finish from rust and
deterioration, w ash y o u r M azda
thoroughly and frequently, at least once a
m onth, w ith lukew arm o r cold water.
If the vehicle is w ashed im properly, the
p aint surface could b e scratched. H ere are
som e exam ples o f how scratching could
occur.
S cratches o ccu r on the paint surface
w hen:
• T he vehicle is w ashed w ithout first
rinsing off dirt and other foreign
m atter.
• T he vehicle is w ashed w ith a rough,
dry, or dirty cloth.
• T he vehicle is w ashed at a car w ash
that uses brushes that are dirty or too
stiff.
• C leansers o r w ax containing abrasives
are used.
M azda is n o t responsible for
scratches caused by autom atic car
w ashes or im proper w ashing.
S cratches are m ore noticeable on
vehicles w ith darker paint finishes.
To m inim ize scratches on the v eh icle’s
paint finish:
• R inse off any dirt or other foreign
m atter using lukew arm o r cold w ater
before washing.
• U se plenty o f lukew arm or cold w ater
and a soft cloth w hen w ashing the
vehicle. D o n ot use a nylon cloth.
• R ub g ently w hen w ashing o r drying the
vehicle.
• Take y o u r vehicle only to a car w ash
that k eeps its brushes w ell m aintained.
• D o n ’t use abrasive cleansers or w ax
that contain abrasives.
& CAUTION
D o n ’t use steel w ool, abrasive
cleaners, or strong detergents
containing highly alkaline o r caustic
agents on chrom e-plated or
anodized alum inum parts. T his m ay
d am age the protective coating; also,
cleaners and detergents m ay
discolor o r deteriorate the paint.
To prevent dam aging the antenna,
retract it befo re entering a car w ash
facility or passing beneath a low
overhead clearance.
Pay special attention to rem oving salt,
dirt, m ud, and other foreign m aterial from
the u nderside o f the w ings, and m ake sure
the drain holes in the low er edges o f the
doors and ro ck er panels are clean.
