R ain, fog, dew, and even tap w ater can
contain harm ful m inerals such as salt and
lime. If m oisture containing these
m inerals settles on the vehicle and
evaporates, the m inerals w ill concentrate
and harden to form w hite rings. T he rings
can dam age y o u r v eh icle’s finish.
P re v e n tio n
It is necessary to w ash and w ax y our
vehicle to preserve its finish according to
the instructions in this section. T hese
steps should b e taken im m ediately after
you find w ater m arks on y o u r v eh icle ’s
finish.
▼ Paint Chipping

Paint chipping occurs w hen gravel throw n
in the air by another v eh icle’s tires hits
y o u r vehicle.
H o w to av o id p a in t c h ip p in g
K eeping a safe distance betw een you and
the vehicle ahead reduces the chances o f
having y o u r paint chipped by flying
gravel.
N O T E
• T he paint chipping zone varies w ith
the speed o f the vehicle. For
exam ple, w hen traveling at 9 0 km /h
(5 6 m ph), the paint chipping zone is
50 m (164 ft).
• In low tem peratures a v eh icle’s
finish hardens. This increases the
chance o f paint chipping.
• C hipped paint can lead to rust
form ing on y o u r M azda. B efore this
happens, rep air the dam age by using
M azda touch-up paint according to
the instructions in this section.
F ailure to rep air the affected area
could lead to serious rusting and
expensive repairs.
