Connection pr ocedure
1. Press the ST OP s witch.
2. Con fi r m that the analog v oltmeter indicates “0. ”
3. Con fi r m that the D ANGER lamp is off .
4. Shor t-circuit the lo w-v oltage and high-v oltage test leadwires , and con -
fi r m that no high v oltage is applied.
5. Connect the lo w-v oltage test leadwire to the DUT .
6. Connect the high-v oltage test leadwire to the DUT .
• Dur ing the test (the TEST lamp or D ANGER lamp is lit), ne v er touch the
HIGH V OL T A GE ter minal, test leadwire , or DUT .

Reducing the eff ects of noise
If a short circuit or breakdo wn occur , noise generated can lead to the malfunctioning
of peripheral electronic components. T o reduce the ef fects of noise, install a toroidal
core or a resistor of approximately 470
Ω
between the DUT and the end of the high-
v oltage test leadwire from the tester , and between the DUT and the end of the lo w-
v oltage test leadwire, as close as possible to the DUT . See Fig. 3-17 .
Using a toroidal core, it is recommended that a di visible core be used for po wer
cable with a diameter of approximately 20 mm, and that it be w ound tw o or three
times around the core.
When connecting a resistor , check its po wer rating. F or an upper current of 10 mA
or less, use a resistor of approximately 470
Ω
(3 W , impulse withstanding v oltage of
30 kV). When such a resistor is connected, the v oltage actually applied to the DUT
is slightly smaller than the output-terminal v oltage (approximately 10 V less at 10
mA) due to a v oltage drop caused by the resistor . This type of resistor is highly use -
ful in reducing the ef fects of noise.
