1. Remove the protective cap.
2. Remove the locknut.
3. Immediately dispose of the old locknut.
4. Remove the wheel hub with tapered roller bearing and disk from the bearing journal.

Cleaning, checking and lubricating the tapered roller bearings

Lithium-enriched multi-purpose grease is a suitable lubricant.
1. Clean the tapered roller bearing.
2. Check the tapered roller bearing for wear.
3. Lubricate the tapered roller bearing.
4. Clean the bearing journal.
5. Lubricate the bearing journal.

The tapered roller bearing exhibits wear.
➤ Replace the bearing.

Re-lubricating the tapered roller bearings after particular events

After particular events, such as travelling through water or salt water, the wheel bearings must be

quickly re-lubricated with new grease.
1. Clean the tapered roller bearing.
2. Re-lubricate the tapered roller bearing.

Installing the wheel bearing

An axial play of 0.002 in. is permitted.
Tightening torque of the lock nut: 37 lbf-ft
