Precondition The machine is jacked up.

The wheel screws have been removed.
The wheels are removed.

Lock nut tightened excessively.

Bearing damage
➤ Comply with specified tightening torque.

Maintenance intervals not kept

Progressive bearing damage,

Worst case scenario: Loss of a wheel during machine transport.
➤ Comply with maintenance intervals.

Overview:
■ Adjust bearing play.
■ Remove wheel bearing.
■ Clean, check and lubricate the tapered roller bearings.
■ Install wheel bearing.
■ Secure the lock nut against loosening.

➤ Comply with all instructions.

10.7.2.1 Maintaining the wheel bearing

Adjusting bearing play

Example: Continuous maintenance tasks (cleaning, lubricating) were not performed. Re-adjust‐

ment of the bearing play is necessary.

■ An axial play of 0.002 in. is permitted.
■ Tightening torque of the lock nut: 37 lbf-ft

Precondition Tapered roller bearing is lubricated.

Tapered roller bearing is in proper condition.
