5.1.1 - Tension of chains
Perform daily inspections of the tension of the chains. The adjustment of the tension of the chains is of funda-
mental importance for the correct functioning. To check the chain tension bend with your hands, it should have a bending
of 2% to 3% of the distance between centers (Fig. 087).
Very tensioned chains (no gap) cause wear of chains, gears, bearings and shafts, besides requiring more
power to the drive. Excessive tension also discourages the formation of an oil film between the joint components of the
current, impairing the lubrication, causing accelerated wear. Off excess is also harmful for allowing vibrations and flexing
chain which in fatigue and wear, reduces lifespan. Keep turnbuckles tensioned enough to avoid excessive voltage or
excessive clearances (Fig. 088).
Never install a set of new chains worn gears. Check gear teeth, if they have with wear like “parrot beak”, we
recommend that you change gears (Fig. 089).
Alternatively, for short periods of work can turn the gear position of the shaft, so that the current work on the
tooth face of the worm gear wear.
5.1.2 - Alignment of Gears and Chains
Keep the wheels aligned using a ruler supported on both sides of the gear, note that the ruler must apóias
across the face of the gear (Fig. 090).
For durability of the transmitter system for gear, take these precautions:
1) Keep your gear clean and properly lubricated;
2) Apply grease on the gears and chains, reaching teeth and links, avoiding excess. Make a mixture of hydrau-
lic oil and graphite and apply the gears and chains.
3) Never put a new link in the chain used;
4) Make sure the chains and gears are perfectly aligned;
5) In the off-season periods, the chains clean, lubricate with the mixing of hydraulic oil and graphite. Do not
leave exposed to the weather forecast, remove them and store in a place free of impurities.
e) When notice any irregularities, paralyze the work and perform the inspection, then eliminate the causes,
returning to use the implement remedied after the occurrence;
f) Check for play in the bearings of the wheel hub. Having set the gap through the ring nut, so that the driving
gear wheel must be removed.
