4.1 IBM 5400-006 Features

The IBM 5400-006 printer is a shuttle type multi-wire dot impact line printer that
allows high quality printing.

There are two ways of connecting and using the printer.

System port Can be used as a system printer for the IBM AS/400 family.

Parallel port Can be used as a printer for IBM PCs and RS/6000 systems.

The IBM 5400-006 printer has the following features:

There are various printing modes according to purposes such as NLQ mode,
DP mode, draft mode, and copy enhance mode.

Both double byte and alphanumeric characters can be printed by maximum 360
lines per minute in the NLQ mode, maximum 500 lines per minute in the DP
mode, and maximum 600 lines per minute in the draft mode.

Up to eight copy continuous forms can be printed in the copy enhance mode.
(In the NLQ mode, up to five forms can be printed.)

Characters are printed in 180 dpi (180 dots per 1 inch: about 7.09 dots per 1
mm). These can be defined by the user.

Character spacing and line spacing can be selected freely according to the
printing task.

Horizontal and vertical spacing can be selected freely.

For alphanumeric characters, the user can select two types of sizes: standard
size and compact size of height 18 dots.


