2.2 Check before Operating
The following must be observed when operating the IBM 5400-006 printer.
Ÿ
Do not place anything on the set cover. Keep the set cover closed during
printing.
Ÿ
Make sure to adjust the form adjustment level to the thickness of the form you
are using. See 2.9.1, “Adjusting the Print Pressure” on page 2-47.
Ÿ
Do not use forms with punched-out paper from sprocket hole.
Ÿ
When setting the form or replacing the ribbon, make sure the ribbon feed has
stopped.
Ÿ
Check the ribbon before starting daily operation. See 2.7, “Checking the
Ribbon” on page 2-31.
Ÿ
Be sure to power off the printer and disconnect the power cord before cleaning
or inspecting the printer.
2.2.1 Consumables
To prevent paper or ribbon jams, remember the following:
Form
Use only specified forms. The IBM 5400-006 printer can print up to eight sheets of
multipart form. For details, see Appendix A, “Forms Design.”
Note: In the copy enhance mode, up to eight sheets can be printed. In the NLQ
mode, up to five sheets can be printed.
Ribbon
Use ribbon cassette (part number 84G5349) and refill ribbon (part number
09F4041) recommended by IBM.
Precautions on Storing Consumables
Ÿ
The printing form should be stored in an environment equivalent to that of the
IBM 5400-006 printer installation site as far as possible. If the printing form is
stored in another place, place the form to the environment of the printer 1 to 2
hours before starting to print.
The optimum environment as a storing place is about 20 °C in temperature and
40 - 60% in relative humidity. If forms stored in a humid place are used, the
forms are softened due to the humidity and might cause a jam.
Ÿ
Use the ribbon within 6 months of purchase.
To prevent drying and deterioration of the ink, avoid storing the ribbon in places
with high temperature and low humidity. If the ribbon is stored in places with
high temperature and the low humidity or it is stored for too long time, the ink
may become uneven or dried, and print quality is not guaranteed.
