17.2 SAE AS 4059

Like ISO 4406, SAE AS 4059 describes particle concentrations in liquids. The analysis methods can
be applied in the same manner as ISO 4406:1999.
The SAE cleanliness classes are based on particle size, number and distribution. The particle size
determined depends on the measurement process and calibration; consequently the particle size are
labeled with letters (A-F).
The following table shows the cleanliness in relation to the particle concentration determined.
