• Make sure that any batteries
that have filler caps are properly
filled with fluid.
• Remove rings, metal watch
bands and other metal jewellery
before working around the
battery.
• Never use a quick charger to
start the engine.
• If you have a telephone fitted
to the vehicle, remove the fuse
for the telephone before jump
starting. Remember to replace
the fuse afterwards.
• To prevent damage to the audio
system, switch it off before jump
starting the vehicle.
Jump starting procedure
Note
The battery in both vehicles must
have a negative earth and a 12 volt
rating.
A
1. Position the two vehicles so they
are not touching.
2. Place the shift lever in position
P
.
3. Turn the ignition control knob to
the lock position.
4. Switch off all lamps and
accessories in both vehicles,
except the hazard warning
flasher or any lamps needed for
the work area.
5. Attach one end of the red jumper
lead to the positive terminal of the
vehicle with the charged battery
(identified by a + symbol).
6. Remove the cover (A) on the
vehicle with the flat battery, by
squeezing the two clips together.
7. Attach the other end of the
red jumper lead to the positive
terminal of the vehicle with the
flat battery.
8. Attach one end of the black
jumper lead to the negative
terminal of the vehicle with the
charged battery (identified by
a – symbol).
9. Attach the other end of the black
jumper lead to a solid stationary,
metallic point on the engine of
the vehicle with the flat battery.
