162 Driving and operating
Emergency operation
If a problem is detected with the
transmission,
illuminates. The
transmission may not operate
normally.
If
stays on and the transmission
does not shift, contact a Holden
Dealer.
Operating notes
• Do not press the accelerator
pedal when moving the shift
lever into
R
or
D
.
• Shift to a lower gear before
descending steep grades.
• Do not rest your foot on the
brakes as they may overheat.
This is particularly important
when towing.
• Take care on slippery surfaces
when accelerating, shifting gears
or braking. An abrupt change in
engine speed, such as sudden
acceleration or engine braking,
may cause the drive wheels to
spin or skid.
• Do not press the accelerator
pedal while using the park
brake or foot brake, when in
D
or
R
. This may overheat the
transmission.
• Do not use the accelerator pedal
to hold the vehicle on a slope.
Use the brakes.
• Do not coast the vehicle in
N
. This
reduces control of the vehicle as
well as engine braking power.
• The automatic transmission fluid
level will be checked when the
vehicle is serviced. Refer to the
Service/Warranty Booklet.
Transmission kick down
For faster acceleration, press the
accelerator pedal all the way down
and hold it. The transmission will shift
to a lower gear giving more power.
When the desired speed is reached,
lift your foot off the accelerator and
the transmission will shift up.
Engine braking
Place the transmission into active
select mode to select a lower gear,
before descending steep grades.
Stopping the vehicle
When stopping the vehicle on
a slope, use the park brake
or foot brake. Do not hold the
vehicle stationary by pressing the
accelerator.
Transmission shiftlock
control system
The vehicle has a Brake
Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI)
system. For operating instructions
see Automatic transmission shiftlock
control system on page 157.
