Driving and operating 153
Starting and
operating
New vehicle running-in
To assist the vehicle’s future
performance and economy use the
following precautions:
• Always drive at a moderate
speed until the engine has
completely warmed up.
• For the first 500 km:
Do not exceed 90 km/h.
Avoid making hard stops
except in an emergency to
avoid premature wear and early
replacement of brakes.
• Up to 1,500 km, avoid driving
at any one speed, either slow
or fast, for any length of time.
Include some higher speeds
within the legal speed limit.
• Drive the vehicle for 1,500 km
before towing a load. See
Running-in when towing on
page 187.
• For AWD vehicles, do not tow
heavy loads off-road before
1,500 km.
Brakes
• Do not let the vehicle run down
hills, or coast with the engine off,
as the power assistance does
not operate.
• A decrease in traction occurs
when water, snow, ice, gravel or
other materials are on the road
surface.
Adjust driving and vehicle speed
to suit the road conditions.
• Driving through water may affect
performance.
Apply the brakes lightly to check
whether they have been affected.
To dry them quickly, lightly apply
the brakes while maintaining
a slow forward speed with a
clear distance ahead until brake
performance returns to normal.
• Ensure that nothing is under the
brake pedal which could limit
their use, such as poorly fitting
floor mats.
• Position the driver’s seat so the
brake pedal can be operated
under all braking conditions.
Power steering
• The power steering fitted to the
vehicle has been designed to
reduce steering effort.
• Do not turn and hold the steering
wheel in the fully turned position
when stationary.
• If power steering is not working,
due to the engine stalling for
example, the vehicle can still
be steered. Have the steering
repaired as soon as possible by
a Holden Dealer.
