
Assembling the Purlin Number 2
Purlin number 2 is located second from the eave.
Before You Begin
Place two roof rafters on the ground with roof panel holes facing up. Some A-frame assemblies will have
diagonal bracing installed and will be placed at specific locations around the roof. Determine if diagonal
bracing is being installed and note those steps in this procedure.
NOTE:
Temperature cable weldments may also be installed to the A-frame at this location. To determine

What You Should Know
The A-frame assembly consists of two roof rafters identified as the left side roof rafter and the right side
roof rafter.
There are also two purlin clips, a left purlin clip (60) and a right purlin clip (62). The left purlin clip (60)
have seven holes when compared to the right, which have six holes along the purlin (47) and purlin clip
mating surface.
NOTE:
The seventh hole located in the center of the left purlin clip (60) is for identification purposes only.
No hardware is used in this location.
1. Attach a right purlin clip (62) and a left purlin clip (60) to the right side lower roof rafter (32) using
four 1/2" x 1-3/4" flange bolts (5) and 1/2" flange nuts (17).
2. Attach a right purlin clip (62) and a left purlin clip (60) to the left side lower roof rafter (32) using four
1/2" x 1-3/4" flange bolts (5) and 1/2" flange nuts (17).
3. Position the purlin (47) between the roof rafters (32) and install to the left and right purlin clips (60
and 62) using twelve 1/2" x 1-3/4" flange bolts (5) and 1/2" flange nuts (17).
NOTE:
Make sure the notched ends in the purlin (47) are at the top.
4. Install one end of the diagonal bracing (77) to the left side lower roof rafter (32) and other end to the
right side lower roof rafter (32) using four 1/2" x 1-3/4" flange bolts (5) and 1/2" flange nuts (17).
NOTE:
Position the diagonal bracing (77) with the square hole end facing towards the eave and
install it to the bottom of the roof rafters (32).
5. Tighten all the hardware to the recommended torque specifications. See
