4.1 Function operation guide

Static Display
(View)
When the trace [View/Blank] is set as ―View‖, the signal/spectrum will keep the most recent trace and do not
go through trace processing. The latest trace will be displayed in the display area of the front panel.
 Backstage Refresh
(Background)
New trace will execute refresh in the internal part of application (backstage), but not be displayed on the
display area of the front panel. This type is commonly applied in remote control.
 Display OFF
(Blank)
―Display OFF‖ indicates that the Series Signal Analyzer neither goes through backstage trace processing nor
display. That means, the trace is not activated and is OFF.
For each trace activated, the
Trace on
is defaulted to refresh display in the 4051 Series Signal/Spectrum
Analyzer.
4) How to activate and configure trace
The 4051 Series Signal/Spectrum Analyzer can activate up to 6 traces at the same time including Trace 1,
Trace 2, Trace 3, Trace 4, Trace 5 and Trace 6. The Series Signal Analyzer only activates Trace 1, the
processing mode of Trace 1 is ―Refresh‖, Display ON/OFF of Trace 1 is set as ―Refresh Display‖, the detector
of Trace defaults to auto and other 5 traces are in Display OFF (OFF) state by default.
The prompt area of screen trace message displays:
Multiple traces can be selected, activated and configured with [Select Trace] submenu by pressing 【 Trace 】
key on the front panel. For the purpose of better understanding and reasonably configuring the trace, we
assume that the Series Signal Analyzer is in the default state and the Trace 1 is activated with processing
mode of ―Refresh‖, Display ON/OFF set as ―Refresh Display‖ and Detector Mode automatically selected as
Normal. Please activate and configure Trace 2 based on the following steps:
Step 1. Select Trace 2:
Select the Trace 2 in the [Select Trace] submenu by pressing
【

key on the front panel. After it is
selected, the Series Signal Analyzer returns to the previous menu automatically. Then the [Select Trace] soft
key menu displays [Select Trace 2], which indicates that the subsequent trace processing mode settings and
trace Display ON/OFF operation are only applicable to the Trace 2.
Step 2. Select the processing mode of Trace 2 and activate Trace 2:
When you press the [
Clear Write
] soft menu, the Series Signal Analyzer will automatically activate the Trace
2 and set its processing mode as Refresh, [View/Blank] menu as [
Trace On
] and detector mode as Auto.
If you directly enter the [View/Blank] menu instead of pressing [
Clear Write
] soft menu and select [
Trace On
],
the Series Signal Analyzer will also activate the Trace 2 and set its processing mode as Refresh, [View/Blank]
as [
Trace On
] and detector mode as Auto. It can be seen that the [
Trace On
] soft menu appears light blue
representing active.
Step 3. Select Max. Hold for the processing mode and sample detector for the detector mode of Trace 2:
By pressing [Max Hold] menu, the Trace 2 will be set as Max. Hold, the character ―*‖ will pop up in the [*
Max Hold] menu and the detector mode of Trace 2 will be automatically set as Auto same as Trace 1. The
detector of Trace 2 will be changed to manual sample detector by selecting [Sample] for the detector in the
[Detector] submenu.
