5) Set the frequency step of the 4051 as once, compare the maximum response amplitude of current trace
with the maximum value of the previous response after trace refreshing and save the higher value.
6) Check the residual response with the frequency up to 9 GHz following step 2 ~ 5 and record the measured
maximum response value at the measurement value of “200 kHz ~ 9 GHz” in B13 of the 4051 Auxiliary
Form.

Determine measurement values in B13 of the 4051 Auxiliary Form. If the maximum response value is
smaller than or equal to the residual response requirement of the 4051 analyzer, it should be recorded in
the 4051 Record Sheet, otherwise it should be considered as noncompliant.
8.5.1.3.4 Image response
a) Test items
During frequency mixing, if two signals can mix with the LO signal with the same frequency to generate IF
signals of the same frequency and if one original signal has a frequency one IF lower than the LO signal and
the other original signal has a frequency one IF higher than the LO signal, then such two original signals can
be referred to as the image of each other. The input signal of each frequency of the LO signal has an image
and the frequency of the original signal and the image differs by two times of IF.
Set the input signal frequency as the center frequency of the 4051 analyzer for reference amplitude
measurement, then tune the synthesized signal generator to a frequency that will cause image, multiple or out-
of-band response, measure and record the amplitude difference displayed as the image response.
b) Test equipment
Synthesized signal generator (E8257D/1464 is recommended)
c) Test steps
IF3 image response
1) Connect the test equipment as shown in Figure 8.8.
2) Set the frequency of the synthesized signal generator as 1 GHz, the power as -4 dBm, the center frequency
of the 4051 analyzer as 1 GHz and the test frequency of the power meter as 1 GHz.
3) Reset 4051 and set as follows:
Span: 10kHz
Reference level -10 dBm
Attenuation 0 dB
Resolution bandwidth: 100Hz
Video bandwidth: 10Hz
4) Adjust the power level of the synthesized signal generator until the the power meter reading is closest to -
10 dBm.
5) Execute Peak Search and Marker Delta.
6) Set the frequency of the synthesized signal generator and the power meter as the frequencies to enable IF3
image response as listed in the 4051 Record Sheet.
7) Adjust the output amplitude of the synthesized signal generator until the the power meter reading is
closest to -10 dBm.
8) Record the Marker Delta amplitude value in the 4051 Record Sheet.
9) Set the 4051 analyzer, the synthesized signal generator and the power meter according to frequencies
listed in the 4051 Record Sheet and repeat step 4 ~ 8.
