4.1 Function operation guide

Caution
The [Bandwidth] menu in the function settings menu of [Reconstructed Signal Output

] in the 4051 Series
Signal/Spectrum Analyzer is only used to indicate the value of the current IF bandwidth (reconstructed IF
output), demodulation bandwidth (AM/FM demodulation output or I/Q demodulation output) or the detector
bandwidth (detector output). If those parameters are required to be changed, the settings can be carried out by
selecting relevant menu through the

key of measurement functions.
Caution
The functions including reconstructed IF output, AM/FM demodulation output, I/Q demodulation output and
detector output of the 4051 Series Signal/Spectrum Analyzer are only applicable to the I/Q analysis mode and
transient analysis mode.
 Set broadband logarithmic detector output (option H08)
The second IF signal inside the 4051 Series Signal/Spectrum Analyzer will go though one fast log
amplification and detector module, and it will output the detector signal to the detector output port (BNC) of
the rear panel. For every 1 dB change in RF input signal, the open-circuit output level of the detector output
port varies about 25 mv. When the power of the RF input signal is 0 dBm, the voltage of the detector output
port is 1 V (Different Series Signal Analyzers may vary slightly on this). In comparison with the digital
detector output, the detector output features faster rise time and shorter delayed response time), which can be
used for the test of pulse signal.
The function can be opened or closed with [Detector Output] menu in the [Reconstructed Signal Output ▶ ]
menu by pressing 【 Input/Output 】 key on the front panel.

Caution
4051 Series Signal/Spectrum Analyzer uses the electronic switch to control whether the second IF signal is
used for the internal service or outputted to external ports, so the analysis function cannot execute properly
when the second IF output is selected as ―On‖.
4.1.3 Operation guidance on general analysis and display function
The section mainly describes the operation guidance on the general analysis and display that are carried out by
the 4051 Series Signal/Spectrum Analyzer using trace and marker under the spectrum analysis mode.
Regardless of measurement mode or measurement task, those operations are of great help to familiarize you
with the 4051 Series Signal/Spectrum Analyzer and its use. The measurement and analysis method may vary
if you are using other measurement modes, please refer to the user manual of corresponding measurement
mode.
