4.1.2.8 Input and output settings
The input and output settings are effective under all measurement modes and measurement functions of Series
Signal Analyzer. The

key on the front panel is used to control the input and output
parameters of Series Signal Analyzer. The input and output interfaces on the front and rear panel of Series
Signal Analyzer may be involved generally when the input and output parameters are modified, which remain
unmodified normally, so most input and output parameter settings are not modified when reset is carried out.

Input and output parameters
While input and output parameters are global parameters relative to the measurement mode and measurement
function of Series Signal Analyzer, all measurement modes and measurement functions can be affected by
modifying those parameters, some parameters are invalid under some measurement modes or measurement
functions.
1) Set frequency reference
The frequency reference signal used by the Series Signal Analyzer can be selected from internal or external
with [Freq Ref Int Ext] menu by pressing

Caution
The frequency reference
When the frequency reference is set as ―Internal‖, the reference output of the rear panel is the 10 MHz signal
inside the analyzer; if the frequency reference is set as ―External‖, the reference output of the rear panel is the
reference input signal of rear panel.
When the frequency reference of the Series Signal Analyzer is set as ―Internal‖, it still uses the internal
reference signal of 10 MHz even the reference input port of the rear panel is connected with the external
device.
When the frequency reference is set as ―External‖, the Series Signal Analyzer will use the reference signal
provided by the external reference input port of rear panel, the screen message display area will display
―Reference: External‖. If incorrect external reference input signal is sensed, e.g., reference input not available,
the signal power fails to reach the required power range, the error message prompt area will display ―Invalid
External Reference‖. Once the external reference reaches those required by the Series Signal Analyzer, the
error message will be cleared.
2) Set input port
 Settings of input port selection
The signal measured by the Series Signal Analyzer can be selected as the RG signal inputted from front panel
or the internal calibration signal with [
Input Port RF CAL
] menu by pressing

front panel.
The screen message display area on the front panel will display the RF input state. If the calibration signal is
selected, the ―Input: Calibration‖ will display; if the RF input signal of front or rear panel is selected, the
―Input: RF‖ will display.
