6 Remote control
6.1 Basis of Remote Control

order to control the instrument remotely inside LAN, the analyzer has been installed with the interface adapter
and TCP/IP protocol and configured with corresponding TCP protocol-based web service.
The network interface adapter installed in the analyzer has three operating modes, including:
 10Mbit
/s
Ethernet IEEE802.3;
 100Mbit
/s
Ethernet IEEE802.3u;

1 Gbit/s
Ethernet IEEE802.3ab.
The interface adapter will automatically seek appropriate network speed for matching based on link condition.
The cable for connecting the analyzer usually has a length no more than 100 m. Visit http://www.ieee.org for

LAN interfaces are introduced below.
1) IP address
Ensure that the physical connection is smooth for remote control of the signal/spectrum analyzer by LAN.
Through the ―Local IP‖ menu of the signal/spectrum analyzer, set the address to the subnet where the
controlling computer is located. Example: If the IP address of the master control computer is 192.168.12.0, the
IP address of the signal/spectrum analyzer should be set as 192.168.12.XXX, in which, XXX is a value
between 1 and 255.
Only the IP address is required to establish the network connector. The VISA addressing character string is as
follows:
TCPIP::host address::port::SOCKET
Where:
 TCPIP refers to the applied network protocol.
 ―Host address‖ refers to the IP address or host name of the instrument, used to identify and control the
instrument to be controlled.

―port‖ refers to the socket port number and the port of the 4051 signal/spectrum analyzer is 5000;
 SOCKET refers to the original network socket resource class.
Example:
Use the following string for original socket connection:
―TCPIP::192.1.2.3::5000::SOCKET‖ can be used for establishing the original socket connection.

Identification of multiple instrument in remote control system
If multiple instruments are connected in the network, distinguish them with the separate IP address and
associated resource string. The respective VISA resource string is used by the master control computer to
identify the instrument.
2) Socket communication
TCP/IP protocol can be networked with the signal generator using LAN socket. Socket is a basic approach
used in computer network programming, which enables network communication among applications
employing different hardware and operating systems. In this method, the signal/spectrum analyzer is
connected to the computer through the port for two-way communication.
Socket is a kind of software specially programmed and has defined the information necessary for network
communication such as IP address and device port number and integrated some basic operations of network
