4.2.15 Harmonic Distortion
4.2.15.1 Basic concept
There are two ways adopted for harmonic distortion measurements of signals.
Auto search carrier: at this time range list is closed, the instrument automatically search base-band signal, and
measure its harmonics. Specifically, center frequency for each harmonic measured will be set as integer
multiples of the fundamental frequency, and perform a scan. Amplitude can be obtained by taking the average
of the trace power and displays in the results list of the window. Each harmonic resolution bandwidth can be
obtained by fundamental frequency resolution bandwidth multiplied by the number of harmonics. Each
harmonic resolution bandwidth value is resolution bandwidth of fundamental frequency multiplied by the
number of harmonics. In the minimum resolution bandwidth available, this result is greater than or equal to
the calculated value.
Means of range list: open range list, set the required parameter list status, and measure according to the
current known list parameters. After the fundamental wave, for each valid range table, set up the center
frequency as the frequency of range table. If the current bandwidth is set to 0, the amplitude can be obtained
by averagely calculating the trace power, and displays in the list of results window.
After measurement of a specified number of harmonics and amplitude, general harmonic distortion results
(Harmonics & THD) will display in the left part of the window. If the measurement is carried out in single
sweep mode, the display will remain at the last harmonic setting, and the instrument stop scanning. If the
measurement is carried out in a continuous scan mode

and harmonic amplitude.
