7.2 Fault Diagnosis and Troubleshooting

The wideband collecting board quantifies 425 MHz IF signal with bandwidth of 200 MHz at a rate of 500
MHz. FPGA on the board is capable of digital down conversion, I/Q data separation and saving and transmits
the data to DSP processing board or the host.
The DSP processor module is mainly used for spectral analysis in sweep detection mode and wideband record
and playback in wideband record mode. In sweep detection mode, the DSP processing board sends the data
preprocessed by the narrowband or wideband collecting board to three DSPs for spectral analysis and
transmits the processing result to the host for display processing; in wideband record and playback mode, the
DSP processing board sends the data of the narrowband or wideband collecting board to the recorder for
saving or return the data in the recorder back to the host for display processing.
The master controller controls internal operations of the signal/spectrum analyzer and receives various
requests from the keyboard on the front pane l or the outer computer via the I/O port, while the control
program in the flash memory card determines operations to be performed by the master controller. The master
controller sends relevant control signals to such microwave components as YTO, YTF, programmable step
attenuator and RF switch via the microwave drive board.
7.2 Fault Diagnosis and Troubleshooting
Generally, problems in the instrument are caused by hardware/software failure or improper use. In case of any
problem, please check and save error message, analyze possible causes, and perform preliminary
troubleshooting with reference to the methods indicated in
―7.2.1 Basic procedure of fault diagnose‖ and
―7.2.2 Common faults and solutions‖ . You can also contact our customer service center and provide the

Fault diagnosis and guidance
This section aims to guide simple judgment and disposal of faults of the 4051 series signal/spectrum analyzer.
If necessary, you need to provide accurate feedbacks to the manufacturer for us to solve problems as soon as
possible.
7.2.1 Basic procedure of fault diagnose
In case of any problem in the instrument, firstly check as follows:

Check whether the power socket is connected to the power supply.
 Is the instrument turned on? Check whether the green LED beside the power switch is ON. Pay attention
to the internal fan noise and check whether the cooling fan of the analyzer works.
 If any, check whether the other instruments, cables and connectors used together with the instrument are
connected properly and work normally.
 If the communication of the instrument through LAN fails, check the yellow LED beside the LAN
interface of the rear panel. If this indicator does not flash, check the LAN cable and connection.
If the operating system cannot be fully loaded or run or the application program of the instrument is not
successfully started, the hard disc may be damaged. If the system recovery is run for a long time in the
start-up process, refer to the ―Windows 7 system restoration‖ in ―2.2.2.2 System maintenance‖.
 If the problem occurs again, check all measurement steps. Check whether all settings are correct.
 If the analyzer does not work normally, press 【 Preset 】 to go back to a known status of the analyzer.
 Check whether the measurement and results comply with the requirements of the performance indicators
and features of the analyzer. Refer to the relevant performance indicators in ―8 Specifications and test
methods‖ of the user manual of the analyzer.
