4.1 Function operation guide

work out the minimum sweep time based on such parameters as resolution bandwidth, video bandwidth and
type of filter. When the sweep time set manually is less than the minimum sweep time, the Series Signal
Analyzer will automatically execute the measurement based on the minimum sweep time. When the sweep
time set manually is greater than 6,000 s, the Series Signal Analyzer will automatically execute the
measurement based on the sweep time of 6,000 s.
When the sweep type is zero span, the sweep time of Series Signal Analyzer is not related to the parameters
including resolution bandwidth, video bandwidth and type of filter. When the sweep time set manually is less
than the minimum sweep time (1us), the Series Signal Analyzer will automatically execute the measurement
based on the minimum sweep time. When the sweep time set manually is greater than 6,000 s, the Series
Signal Analyzer will automatically execute the measurement based on the sweep time of 6,000 s.
When the sweep type is FFT, the sweep time cannot be set manually.
 How to switch continuous sweep ON and OFF
The continuous sweep ON indicates that the Series Signal Analyzer automatically executes the measurement
based on the trigger event set. The continuous sweep ON is the default state of the Series Signal Analyzer.
The continuous sweep OFF indicates that the Series Signal Analyzer is manually controlled by the user to
executes the measurement based on the trigger event set. When the trace average function is opened, the
Series Signal Analyzer will not stop the measurement until the designated trace average count is reached. For

Many methods in the 4051 Series Signal/Spectrum Analyzer are available for switching the continuous sweep
ON and OFF directly.
Method 1. switch can be realized with [Sweep Single Cont] soft menu by pressing

 Configure sweep type rules manually
For the 4051 Series Signal/Spectrum Analyzer, the sweep type includes sweep frequency and FFT, while the
sweep type rules include ―Best Dynamic Range‖ and ―Best Speed‖.
―Best Dynamic Range‖ rules: when RBW is or larger than 300Hz, the sweep type is Swept; when RBW is less
than 300Hz, the sweep type is FFT.
―Best Speed‖ rules: when RBW is or larger than 3kHz, the sweep type is Swept; when RBW is less than 3kHz,
the sweep type is FFT.
The user can set the sweep type rules manually by pressing 【 Sweep 】 key on the front panel and entering
sweep setting menu. In the reset state, the 4051 usually select the sweep type automatically based on the ―Best
Dynamic Range‖.
