CAUTION
After the hood has lifted, the
rear hood hinge area may be
hot. Do not touch the
pedestrian protection system
components.
The pedestrian protection system
is designed to lift the hood only
once.
Have the vehicle towed for service.
If the frontal impact is serious
enough, the air bags will also
deploy.
See Section 2 for more information
on the air bag system.
After the pedestrian protection
system has deployed, the hood
will remain in the raised position
and the driver’s view may be
reduced by the raised hood.
CAUTION
Do not drive the vehicle when
the rear of the hood is raised.
Operating your vehicle with the
rear of the hood raised can lead
to a collision resulting in
damage to your vehicle, to
other property, personal injury
or even death.
NOTICE
After the pedestrian protection
system has deployed, see your
dealer for service. The hood
must be replaced.
The
RESET HOOD SEE OWNERS
MANUAL
message will appear.
If towing service is not available,
the hood may be repositioned
temporarily.
See the following, later in this
section, for more information:
• Temporary Hood Repair
The pedestrian protection system
may not activate under the
following conditions:
• The pedestrian impact is
outside the range of the
sensors located on the front
bumper.
• The sensors on the front
bumper are dirty or damaged.
• The path of the lifting hood is
blocked by snow or ice. Clear
any ice or snow from the hood
before driving.
• Winter fronts, grille covers or
other aftermarket equipment is
attached to the bumper.
• Vehicle speed at impact is less
than 27 km/h (17 mph) or
greater than 45 km/h
(28 mph).
